The Beginning of the Old Road. (2016-2019)
A collection of photographs of the American West as it looks today. While it's true that the "Wild West" has certainly passed into folklore, there is a timeless mystery to the vast, wide open spaces of the American West. It might not look like it did 100 years ago, but time moves a little slower out here. The sense of perspective that the mountains, deserts and grasslands provide, keep me coming back each year. In the quiet solace of the seemingly unending expanse of the West, I am able to find peace and purpose. It reminds me how lucky we are to be guests on this planet, if only for a brief while.
This project was started in the summer of 2016 during a cross country drive from Reno, NV to Long Island, NY. Each subsequent summer I traveled back out west with a camera and some film to continue this work. The pandemic brought my travels out west to a halt, and while I am sure I will be back someday, it seemed fitting to end this collection.
